We have all of this and a strong industrial base.

We are very fortunate to have such caring citizens within our community which makes Redfield a “one of a kind” community. We hope this website helps you to learn about our community and opens opportunities for you to become involved.

The History of Redfield

Redfield is a city in Dallas County, Iowa along the Middle Raccoon River.  The population was 835 in the 2010 census.  Redfield is named after Lieutenant Colonel James Redfield.  He was an early settler of the area who served in the 39th infantry of the Union Army during the Civil War.  He died at Allatoona Pass in Georgia in October of 1864. He purchased land along the South Raccoon River in Dallas County.   The land had been surveyed as a possible route for the railroad.  He established the town of Wiscotta and ran several successful businesses.  The Cavanaugh brothers had bought a huge tract of land in the same area and established the settlement of New Ireland (Irishtown).  At the time Wiscotta was the larger of the two settlements.  In the fall of 1860 the town of New Ireland became known as Redfield after James Redfield.
